Register a .lv domain

A .lv domain tells customers you work in Latvia. With SiteAI you register it from your account and it connects to your website automatically, with DNS and an SSL certificate set up for you.

Who can register a .lv domain

According to the .lv registry, NIC.lv, a .lv domain can be registered by anyone — individuals and companies alike. No local presence in Latvia is required, and the site does not have to be hosted in Latvia. That means a foreign company or a non-resident freelancer can hold a .lv domain.

The registrant data differs slightly:

  • Companies give the company name, registration number and VAT number (if any), plus legal and postal addresses.
  • Individuals resident in Latvia give their personal ID code; non-residents register without it.
  • Administrative and technical contacts need a name, address, phone and email.

Rules can change, so check the current policy at nic.lv if you have an unusual case.

Price and renewal

ExtensionPrice per yearGood for
.lv€16.99businesses serving customers in Latvia
.eu€14.99businesses selling across the EU
.com€17.99international audiences
.net / .org€19.99tech projects, associations and organisations

Domains are paid per year. Connecting a domain to a SiteAI website requires the Basic plan (€5.99/month) or higher — see pricing.

.lv or .com?

If nearly all of your customers are in Latvia, choose .lv: it signals a local business and is easy to say on the phone. A .com makes sense if you sell abroad or if the short .lv name is already taken. A .eu suits businesses that serve customers across the European Union. A small business rarely needs to buy three extensions "for protection" — one good name is usually enough. If you do buy several, pick one as the main address and point the others at the same site.

Renewal

Domains are registered for a year and renewed annually. Keep an eye on the renewal date: if a domain lapses and is released, someone else can register it — and your website and email on that address stop working.

Choosing a name

  • Short and easy to say over the phone.
  • Latvian letters are written without diacritics in most domains: "ā" → "a", "š" → "s".
  • Hyphens are allowed but often forgotten when people type.
  • If your customers are in Latvia, .lv is usually the right choice; add .eu or .com if you also sell abroad.

Steps

  1. Create your website in SiteAI (or log in) and open the domains section.
  2. Search for the name and pick an available extension.
  3. Enter the registrant details and pay by card via Stripe.
  4. Wait about 15 minutes — the domain connects to your site automatically.

DNS and SSL

When you register through SiteAI, the DNS records and the SSL certificate are configured for you, so your site loads over https:// straight away. Already own a domain at another registrar? You can connect it to your SiteAI site; the account shows which records to change.

Email on your .lv domain

Once you have the domain, an address like info@yourcompany.lv looks far more professional than a free mailbox. SiteAI mailboxes start at €1.99/month and work in webmail, on your phone and in Outlook via IMAP/SMTP — see business email on your own domain.
